Goodbye 2nd and 5th Grades!

School's out for summer!

Yesterday was field day, which I helped with all day long.  It poured rain a lot of the day, so it turned into an indoor "field" day.  Still lots of fun.  It made it feel like the last day of school.  (Did I mention I got an iPhone for my birthday?  Well, I did.  And it took all of these photos!  Loving it!)

Limbo!  How low can you go?

Alayna and her silly friend Owen

Shooting hoops!

Chicken Between Your Legs races.

Statue of Liberty Obstacle Course

Jeremiah's turn to Limbo

The kids woke up earlier than usual this morning, excited to celebrate with their classmates, as that is all today was about.  Pretty much from the time we got there, chaos ensued.  But, it was a fun day.  I can't believe I now have a MIDDLE SCHOOLER and a 3rd grader.  Crazy!

One of the Moms put this together from the whole class.  So cute!

Chaos

Signing yearbooks.

Total free day for these future middle schoolers.

Lunch with friends.  And they're all having a sleepover tonight at Cate's house (girl in white).  Brave Mom and Dad!

J's Class--Officially Middle Schoolers!
(His teacher is retiring this year.  I joked with him that Jeremiah drove him into retirement, and he laughed, but I think it might be a little bit true.  Or, (I guess) 30 years of teaching 4th and 5th graders....)

Third graders!

Silly faces!

I love doing these side-by-side photos of the first and last days to see how much they've changed over the past 9.5 months.

Not too much of a difference.  But, if you could see height, he grew 2 inches this year.

Losing her little girl look.  :(

End of year gifts!

We have a very busy summer planned.   CA, camping, Seattle, Crater Lake, and the coast to name some of what we've already planned.  And then just the regular hiking, biking, parks, library, zoo, OMSI, swimming, and play dates.  But, you can be sure that we will do the same thing we've done the past 5 summers to keep their brains engaged.  Math worksheets (focusing on the next school grade, with some review), weekly book reports, art, music, and science experiments will abound this summer.  Hoping for 30-60 minutes a day, 4 days a week.  Reading will be every day, obviously (but they would do that regardless of my "homeschooling" schedule).  Jeremiah is a big reader, usually about 2-3 hours a day.  Alayna is slightly less enthusiastic, and can usually do 60 minutes a day.   They will continue practicing piano 20-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week despite the fact that they have 2 months off from lessons.  Let the fun begin!
