Well, Ezra is cutting his first tooth. He has been eating VERY poorly the last week and has been in a rotten mood. He's usually a very easy going baby with a lot of "happy" awake time. Not so at the present time and yesterday I figured out why.
He had been running a low-grade fever (hovering between 99-100), but I just attributed it to the cold that went through our house the week before Easter, leaving Ezra congested until a few days ago. But then, even with the congestion gone, he was still warm and irritable. And then last night, while feeding him peas, I discovered the white dot. The tooth has not cut through, but its there, waiting to erupt. Poor little man. That explains his loss of appetite (both Jeremiah and Alayna stopped eating while cutting their first few teeth).
I just hope that once this tooth cuts, his appetite will be back and he will eat again...no more of this 10 oz a day stuff. He's lost a few ounces over the last week (weighs in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces). Your continued thoughts and prayers for better eating and healthy weight gain are very much appreciated.
Happy April everyone!

Things have changed...a little
Well, this is just a quick update on the little man. He’s 7 months old today! He still weighs about 8 lbs, 5 oz. I am contemplating buying a baby scale so that I don’t have to go to the post office whenever I want to weigh him! (Yes, I’ve done that twice now!) I saw one on Craig’s List for 70 bucks. They are 300-400 new. He’s supposed to be getting monthly weight checks at the pediatrician, but the screwy insurance thing hasn’t been cleared up. He’s still being covered by CRS (Children's Rehabilitation Services) for his special needs stuff—but they didn’t weigh him at his eye appointments; maybe at Neurology next week they will.
Ezra loves food! He is getting used to using the spoon. He’s had pears and bananas so far, and we think he likes the bananas better. He’s also doing a little better eating from the bottle—he eats about 2-3 oz per feeding now, all on his own. He still falls short at the end of the day, but we’re out of feeding tubes and cannot get any more till the insurance thing is settled.
He is starting to smile a lot more now, as you can see in the blurry picture I’ve posted. Its hard to capture the smile, so I just keep clicking. He's also babbling up a storm--he loves to tell you all his problems!
Please continue to pray for improvements in eating and that he’ll gain weight! He can’t get the next set of genetic tests done till he’s 12 pounds! And that the insurance issue would be cleared up THIS MONTH!
Cheerio!

First Bite
Last night we gave Ezra his first taste of solid food! We decided to try pears. We had tried a few weeks ago to give him rice cereal and he didn't seem to know what to do with it; he just let it sit there on his tongue for awhile and was making an odd gurgling noise--not necessarily a happy one. Then, on Thursday the "Developmental Specialist" came by for his quarterly check up and suggested we try baby food. And so, we did! He's eaten 3 times so far and still hasn't finished the "jar" (which is not a jar but a plastic container with a lid--great to reuse for travel snacks!). He takes a few small bites and then turns his head away...letting us know that he's done. After 5 days of pears (to make sure he doesn't have an allergic reaction) we will try carrots. I splurged and bought the organic baby food because I am on an organic kick the past few months. I think once Ez is used to food, I will just make my own. God bless the food processor!
By the way, when the DS was here, she weighed Ezra and unfortunately, he's lost 4 oz since his January check up...he is now 8 lbs, 4 oz. Hopefully the extra calories in the food will help him gain weight! Keep that as an on-going prayer request. =)
One more thing: Ezra is much more dexterous with his hands--he's really reaching out for objects now (when placed about 6 inches or less from his face) and bringing everything to his mouth. He's also starting to drool a lot more which is a red flag for teething. Fun times ahead!
