Jeremiah started the 1st grade this morning and came home with a mountain of "real" homework. He had homework last year, in Kindergarten, but it was quite easy, especially at the beginning of the year. But, this afternoon, when we got back from picking him up, I sat down to look through his homework folder (which includes all the homework for the week) and WOW. He's got actual homework: math, spelling, reading, vocabulary words. It seems almost too overwhelming for a 6-year-old. The math is not a problem; Jeremiah loves it and in fact is very good at it, much more advanced than a typical 1st grader. His writing is HORRENDOUS though...and he's not patient enough for the reading and spelling homework. He has ADHD and its really difficult for him to concentrate on that. Well, we got through the homework, with little protest. The only thing he complained about was the 15 minutes of reading homework he has every night. I guess he'll be like his Dad, not a big reader. I, of course, am the complete opposite and am always reading something.
I cannot believe my little J is in first grade...they really do grow up fast!

(I know he looks unhappy, but he was very excited--he just didn't want to take a picture! He wanted to join the other kids on the playground.)
