Low and behold, our oldest child has made it to adulthood! This is a true blue miracle. Not just because of all the "terrible" things we did to him growing up (you know, formula feeding at 3 months, crib bumpers, blankets and stuffed animals in his crib, pacifiers, forward-facing car seat at age 1, not using a crib camera, or hell, even a baby monitor, etc., etc.) but also because it hasn't been the easiest journey. A lot of ups and downs. It's not all on us or all on Jeremiah. He was our guinea pig. We had to test what worked and what didn't. And, his ADHD threw us all kinds of curveballs. But, we are thankful for the teachers and church leaders who walked aside us. And a special shout out to our tribe in Portland, who made such an impact on his life. We did it! He's 18! And, though he still has a lot more growing to do, we are proud of the man he is becoming. Praise be to God!
To celebrate, my parents took him (and us!) to dinner at his favorite Mexican restaurant. We also got an ice cream cake. He also went with a few buddies to an escape room in SLO, in addition to a surprise visit from his Uncle Eric. All he wants to do now is go get his license and we're working on that.
He's got his college plan set and is realistic with his future goals. He's really grown these past couple of years. We're so grateful for that.
