You're welcome.
But, in all seriousness, as a pain in the rear as he can be, we love this first born of ours. He's smart, creative, funny and zealous in his endeavors. He has potential to do really great things, if we can hone in that mischievous side a bit more. We may be struggling with some teenage hormones, but, all too soon, he will be up and out, and I will be longing for the days when he guffawed at me and slammed his bedroom door when I asked him to clean up a mess or do some other chore. (Just like I miss those toddler days, with his endless energy and curiosity--skipping naps to take apart his alarm clock or peel the chipping paint off his wall or sneak out to the pantry and grab a fruit strip snack. Yes, those were the days, indeed.)
So, he's 14 and we had a low-key celebration as a family. Gone are the days of a big party for him. He decided the dinner menu this week (and even cooked a couple of them himself), we went out for burgers on the big day and then had some chocolate cupcakes with green icing and sprinkles, plus a few gifts. He wants to see a movie with a friend this weekend and my parents are coming for a visit on Sunday, so the birthday festivities are not completely over.
Next year, he's off to high school. But, for now, here are some photos from the day of celebrating our 14-year-old.
At Sylvesters--they make you wear a hat and take a photo for a free birthday burger.
Happy Birthday, J-man. We love you!
